Propylene glycol is an organic compound with the chemical formula C3H8O2. It is miscible with water, ethanol and various organic solvents. Normal for colorless viscous liquid, almost tasteless, fine smell slightly sweet. Propylene glycol can be used as a raw material for unsaturated polyester resins and as a wetting agent in combination with glycerin or sorbitol in cosmetics, toothpastes and soaps. It is used as a moisture conditioner and hair leveller in hair dye, as an antifreeze, and in the cellophane, plasticizer industries.

Propylene glycol has good miscibility with various spices, so it is also used as a solvent and softener for cosmetics. Also used as tobacco humidifier, mildew prevention agent, food processing equipment lubricating oil and food marking ink solvent. Propylene glycol aqueous solution is an effective antifreeze agent. 2, propylene glycol is also an important raw material of unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, the consumption of this aspect accounts for about 45% of the total consumption of propylene glycol, this unsaturated polyester is widely used in surface coatings and reinforced plastics. 3, propylene glycol is also an important monomer raw material for manufacturing excellent new polyester fiber polypropylene terephthalate (PTT). PTT fiber than PET (commonly known as dacron, dacron, chemical name poly (ethylene terephthalate), PBT (commonly known as polyester polyester, chemical name poly (butylene terephthalate) fiber has better performance, both high performance PET and easy processing of PBT. Compared with conventional polyester PET fiber, the soft part of this fiber is propylene glycol instead of ethylene glycol, so its soft part of the carbon-carbon chain is longer, which makes the fiber itself has elasticity, soft hand feel, elongation as good as elastic fiber. In addition to strong anti-fouling, its dyeing performance is better than nylon, can be used in the usual disperse dyes dyeing and printing, do not need to use special chemicals, dyed with dry, crisp and other characteristics.
